Love shared is never lost.
My heart is sad for Demi Moore; she’s facing a long drawn out public divorce and the scorn of those who like to say “I told you so.”
But if I could talk to her, I’d tell her to hold her head high. Despite what has been called a public humiliation, Aston’s cheating is hurtful, but not her fault. I would have her focus on the fact that 6 years ago Demi took a big risk, all for love. In the face society’s judgment, and what I call the insensitivity of labeling older women as cougars, Demi stood tall and followed her heart.
The fact that her marriage didn’t work out in the long run doesn’t take away from the fact that she was brave enough to fall in love and challenge the odds. She wasn’t swayed by those who scoffed at the 15- year age difference; she didn’t let them stop her from being open about her feelings and taking the ultimate step of getting married.
It was plain to see that when they first got together it was magic. They were in love and committed to making their blended family work. They talked about putting the children first; they approached their union with maturity and good sense.
They both were forced to leave their comfort zones and defy society’s bias towards the May- December relationship. Demi Moore took the brunt of the prejudice because people continually scrutinized her appearance in regard to her age.
I hope that through this hard time, she gives herself credit for her brave choice to fully love and commit to a younger man. No matter how a relationship ends, the love that was shared and enjoyed was not wasted. A relationship is not defined by it’s ending, but by the day-to-day experience of two lives joined together.
For her, the risk didn’t pay off in time, but love is never wasted and she can hold her head high knowing that despite public opinion she gave it her all.
People forget that woman can also do what they want to do. Demi left her marriage with Bruce Willis for Ashton. Things don’t always go as planned.
Well Cin, your comments are exactly why May-December romances get a bad rap, especially when the woman is the older partner. So, please get your facts staight! Demi did not leave Bruce for Ashton. She married Bruce Willis in 1987 and they divorced in 2000. Then in 2003 she met Ashton and they got married in 2005 and just announced their possible divorce (don’t forget it not done yet). I, too, believe Demi had the guts to follow her heart. Good for her! And, Virginia, thank you for bringing this to our attention. You’re right, Love is never wasted!
